CHOOSING A PERSONAL TRAINER IN ORLANDO: 7 QUESTIONS TO ASK FIRST

Orlando has no shortage of gyms and personal trainers. The hard part is telling a coach who will actually get you results from someone who counts reps. Here are the questions worth asking before you commit, and how we answer them at The Hub.

1. What are your certifications?

Certifications are not everything, but they show a coach has studied the fundamentals. Look for a nationally recognized personal training certification and specialty credentials that match your goal: weightlifting, corrective exercise, sport performance.

Our answer: Ari is a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance coach, and NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist.

2. Do you still train yourself?

Coaches who train seriously understand what they are asking you to do. They know how hard the hard sessions feel.

Our answer: Ari is a four-time CrossFit Games Quarterfinalist. Emily was the first female Titan on NBC's The Titan Games and competes as a professional athlete.

3. Who have you coached, and can I see it?

Results you can see beat testimonials you cannot verify. Ask for real examples.

Our answer: our sessions with pro athletes are filmed and on our YouTube channel.

4. Will I train with you, or with someone else?

At some gyms you buy sessions with a head coach and end up with whoever is free. Ask who will actually run your sessions.

5. What happens on the days I am not with you?

One or two sessions a week is not enough on its own. A good coach gives you a plan for the other days too.

Our answer: in-person clients follow their written plan in the A&E app between sessions, with exercise demos and tracking.

6. How will we measure progress?

Strength numbers, body composition, conditioning tests, how your clothes fit, how you feel. Agree on what success means before you start, and check it regularly.

7. What does it cost, all in?

Ask about session rates, packages, contracts and what is included. A good coach is upfront about price.
